The Pastor's Pen
Reverend Linwood Lewis
Sharing ministry with the members and friends of the Coden United Methodist Church has been
a wonderful experience that will live in my memory for a lifetime. This Church is a loving and caring
fellowship welcoming all who seek to live and grow in the Christian life. What a wonderful place
to serve God and grow together in our Lord and Savior.

The Coden United Methodist Church is steeped in tradition and service on the banks of the Coden
Bayou, but now faces the fact of relocation of the physical plant. After Katrina left the buildings
in shambles and one washed out to sea, it is now time to seek higher ground. Katrina destruction
was not the first, but must surely be the last. I am grateful for the members and the many volunteers
who worked so hard to make the necessary repairs so we would have a place to worship until a new
Sanctuary is built. This resilient group of people is stronger in their faith and love of the church for
having faced the tragedies of the past.

I am confident that, with the determination of the faithful and the help of many, the Coden United
Methodist Church will rise above the land on Hemley Road as a beacon for Christ in the area.
